Miss Universe Nigeria Honored by Enugu State Governor
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State welcomed Chidimma Onwe-Adetsina, Miss Universe Nigeria, in a ceremony held at the Government House on Thursday. Onwe-Adetsina, who hails from Amurri in Nkanu West LGA of the state, was named a brand ambassador for Enugu State. The governor praised her determination and achievements as emblematic of the spirit of Enugu’s people.
In a statement from the governor’s media office, Governor Mbah stated that Onwe-Adetsina’s resolve to succeed demonstrates the intrinsic attributes of resilience and grit associated with Enugu State. “I am very delighted to congratulate and welcome you to your homeland,” Mbah expressed. “Enugu State has played a consequential role in the history of this nation, and you should be proud of your heritage,” he added.
Mbah commended Onwe-Adetsina for her ability to triumph over adversity and emphasized the importance of sharing her journey with the youth. “We are going to look at how you could engage some of our young people, share your experience, and how you got to where you are today,” explained Mbah, underscoring the potential positive influence she could have on the state’s youth.
Onwe-Adetsina, who lived in South Africa, withdrew from the Miss South Africa competition due to controversy over her citizenship status and subsequent backlash. Upon returning to Nigeria, she embraced the opportunity to reclaim her heritage and was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. “Nigeria picked me up when I was on my knees, and I am really grateful,” she stated.
Speaking to the media, Enugu State’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke, expressed optimism about Onwe-Adetsina’s prospects at the upcoming Miss Universe competition in Mexico, stating, “We have confidence she will triumph.”
Onwe-Adetsina, in her address, expressed appreciation for the warm welcome and thanked Governor Mbah for prioritizing education. “As a woman who is passionate about education, it is truly an honor to have someone contribute to the education system for the betterment of people,” she commented.
