Miss Universe 2025: Stunning National Costumes Shine Despite Pageant Drama
NONTHABURI, Thailand — The Miss Universe 2025 pageant kicked off in a spectacular fashion with its National Costume Show on Wednesday. Delegates from over 100 countries gathered to showcase elaborate designs that celebrate their cultural heritage.
The event, held in Thailand, has not been without its challenges, including the controversy surrounding Miss Mexico’s early departure following an altercation with a director. However, the atmosphere was electric during the costume showcase, where contestants dazzled the crowd with stunning outfits.
Among the highlights was Audrey Eckert, 23, representing the United States, who paid tribute to the nation’s national bird with an ornate bald eagle costume. “Every detail tells a story of heritage, strength, and hope,” the Miss USA Instagram account stated.
Miss Norway, Leonora Lysglimt-Rødland, took a creative approach by dressing as a salmon, a nod to her country’s leading export. Her costume featured fabrics mimicking the fish’s shimmer, which left the audience in awe.
Also captivating was Miss Sri Lanka, Lihasa, who rolled onto the stage in an intricate brass teapot costume that symbolized the country’s warmth and hospitality.
Brigitta Schaback, Miss Estonia, embraced her country’s folklore with a costume inspired by the Libahunt legend, donning a furry ensemble that included a striking fox head.
Each contestant’s costume represented not just their home countries but also significant themes. Miss Tanzania, Naisae Yona, shone in a gown styled to resemble a beehive, symbolizing unity and leadership inspired by the Queen Bee.
The offering from Miss Venezuela, Stephany Adrian Abasali, honored the country’s rich marine life, showcasing a costume adorned with shimmering elements representing her homeland’s biodiversity.
As the preliminary rounds approach, excitement builds for the main competition on November 21. This year’s Miss Universe promises to be a memorable event, celebrating diversity and resilience among women worldwide.
