PM Modi Sworn in for Historic Third Term, Global Leaders Attend Ceremony
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been sworn in for a historic third consecutive term, marking a significant milestone in Indian politics. The ceremony took place at the iconic Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where President Draupadi Murmu administered the oath of office to PM Modi.
The Prime Minister’s third term equals the achievement of India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, who secured wins in the 1952, 1957, and 1962 general elections. Alongside PM Modi, prominent leaders such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, and Nitin Gadkari were among the 35 Cabinet Ministers who took oath at the ceremony.
Notably, the new Cabinet includes members from various coalition partners, reflecting the strength of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Two MPs each from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Andhra Pradesh, where the NDA emerged victorious in 21 out of 25 Lok Sabha seats, were sworn in as Cabinet Ministers.
In a gesture of regional representation, leaders like H.D. Kumaraswamy from the Janata Dal (Secular) and Sarbananda Sonowal from the BJP have also been inducted into the Cabinet, showcasing a diverse and inclusive approach to governance.
The NDA, comprised of various political parties, secured a total of 286 seats in the recent elections, with the BJP alone winning 240 seats. Despite falling short of the majority mark, the coalition government under PM Modi’s leadership is poised to govern effectively with a collaborative approach.
Adding to the significance of the occasion, leaders from seven countries across South Asia and the Indian Ocean region are attending the swearing-in ceremony, underlining the importance of India’s role in the international arena.
