New York, NY – Molly Qerim, co-host of ESPN‘s “First Take,” has resigned from the network, effective immediately, after a decade on the show. Stephen A. Smith, who announced Qerim’s departure on his show, stated she resigned abruptly on Monday night.

During a conversation on “The Stephen A. Smith Show” Tuesday, he expressed that ESPN did not want to lose Qerim amidst ongoing contract negotiations. “It’s just uncomfortable to see. I’m not happy about it,” Smith said. He shared his feelings, saying, “To say that I’m quite sad about it is an understatement.” He noted their long partnership and the difficult nature of her departure.

Smith confirmed he was surprised by the news and had no prior knowledge of her plans to leave. “It came as a shock. I was not aware that this is something that she was contemplating doing,” he added. Smith acknowledged Qerim’s impact on both his life and the show, stating, “I appreciate her and what she has meant to me, and what she has meant to the show.”

Qerim announced her resignation via her Instagram Story but mentioned the news came out sooner than she intended. Reports indicate she declined a new contract from ESPN and plans to leave the network by the end of the year.

Burke Magnus, president of content at ESPN, praised Qerim’s contributions to the show, stating, “Molly has been an integral part of ESPN since 2006 and a key driver of ‘First Take’s’ success since joining as host a decade ago.” Magnus added that they respect her decision and wish her well in her future endeavors.

As of now, there is no information regarding her final appearance on “First Take.” In her farewell message, she finished with a note saying, “Stay tuned,” hinting at future plans.
