Mountain Lion Euthanized After Injuring Dog in Keystone Ranch Backyard
A mountain lion was euthanized in Keystone Ranch Golf Course after attacking a dog in a backyard. The incident took place on January 27 when Furgus, a 14-month-old Australian shepherd and black-mouth cur mix, was attacked by the mountain lion in his own yard. Furgus’ owners, Shawne and Shannon Leach, managed to track down the mountain lion and save their pet.
Shawne Leach heard a strange sound outside and discovered Furgus missing. Her husband found blood in the snow, suspecting the mountain lion had taken Furgus. Determined to find their dog, they braved the 2-feet deep snow and equipped themselves with a flashlight and a handgun.
The couple located the mountain lion and came face to face with it, but their focus was solely on rescuing their pet. They managed to scare the cat away and reunite with Furgus, who had suffered injuries from the attack.
This incident highlights the potential danger posed by wildlife in residential areas, particularly in proximity to natural habitats like the Keystone Ranch Golf Course. It serves as a reminder for pet owners to be vigilant and take precautions to protect their animals from encounters with wild animals.
The local authorities were informed about the incident, but no further action was taken against the mountain lion. The Leach family expressed relief that Furgus was safe and thanked everyone for their support during this harrowing experience.
