State Moves to Revoke Bail for Murder-Accused ANC MP Sibusiso Kula
The State has filed a petition with the High Court in Klerksdorp seeking the cancellation of bail granted to the murder-accused African National Congress (ANC) Member of Parliament, Sibusiso Kula.
During the hearing on Tuesday, the State alleged that Kula violated his bail conditions by contacting witnesses and attempting to influence them to alter their statements given to the authorities.
Kula, who is currently out on bail of R50,000, was apprehended in January 2023 in connection to the brutal death of his wife, Jennifer Kula, whose body was discovered at their residence in the Kanana township in November 2022.
Earlier attempts by Kula to have the case dismissed were turned down by the court, further complicating his legal situation.
The Advocate for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the North West, Dalton Tshinyani, disclosed plans to present a video purportedly capturing Kula visiting a police officer in the detention cells.
“We will also submit statements from the witnesses who accused the defendant of pressuring them not to testify against him, along with the account of the police officer stationed at the detention cells due to the defendant’s alleged visits to the witnesses,” Tshinyani stated.
Kula is facing charges that span murder, obstruction of justice, violation of the Domestic Violence Act, providing false statements and affidavits, and complicity in planning or facilitating a murder with another person.
