MSNBC Host Corrects Guest’s ‘Rapist’ Claim About Trump
MSNBC‘s Mika Brzezinski swiftly corrected a guest who referred to President-elect Donald Trump as a ‘rapist’ during a live broadcast of ‘Morning Joe’ on Wednesday. The incident occurred just weeks after ABC News settled a lawsuit with Trump over similar claims made by anchor George Stephanopoulos.
Scott Galloway, an entrepreneur and NYU Stern School of Business professor, made the controversial statement while discussing economic factors behind Trump’s victory over Kamala Harris. ‘We are in the midst of a series of small revolutions to correct income inequality. And the reason we put an insurrectionist and a rapist in office is because for the first time in our nation’s history, a 30-year-old man or woman isn’t doing as well as his or her parents were at 30,’ Galloway said.
Brzezinski intervened as the segment concluded, clarifying the legal distinction in Trump’s civil case. ‘I want to make a comment about a word that was used in this interview. Donald Trump was tried civilly and was found liable of sexual abuse, not rape. But the judge in the case likened his actions to rape, but the liability was officially called sexual abuse,’ she stated before cutting to a commercial break.
The correction follows a recent settlement between ABC News and Trump over Stephanopoulos’ repeated claims that Trump had been found ‘liable for rape’ during a March 10 interview. Stephanopoulos had reportedly ignored warnings from ABC’s legal team before making the statements, according to The Post.
Meanwhile, Trump’s pick for Federal Communications Commission chief, Nathan Simington, has issued warnings to national news networks about perceived bias in their coverage of the President-elect. ‘Americans no longer trust the national news media to report fully, accurately, and fairly,’ Simington said last month.
The Trump administration’s scrutiny of media coverage could also impact the proposed merger between CBS News parent company Paramount Global and Skydance Media. Sources close to Trump’s transition team suggest CBS may be pressured to release a full transcript of a controversial ’60 Minutes’ interview, which Trump allies believe demonstrates biased reporting during the 2024 election.
