Napoli Secures Victory Against Sporting in Champions League Clash

Nápoles, Italia — Napoli triumphed over Sporting CP with a score of 2-1 in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. The match marked the second round of the group stage in the 2025/26 season.
Rasmus Hojlund registered both goals for Napoli, showcasing his talent after receiving precise assists from Kevin De Bruyne. Hojlund scored the opener in the 36th minute, finishing a well-placed delivery from De Bruyne. This strike came after a period of sustained pressure from Napoli, which controlled the overall pace of the match.
Sporting leveled the score at 1-1 in the 62nd minute when Luis Suárez successfully converted a penalty, awarded after Matteo Politano fouled Maximiliano Araújo in the area. The equalizer injected new energy into the game, with Sporting appearing more threatening as they pressed Napoli for a winner.
However, Hojlund restored Napoli’s lead in the 79th minute, this time with a header from another exquisite De Bruyne corner. The home crowd erupted in celebration as Napoli sought to maintain their grip on the game.
The match intensified in the closing stages, with Sporting pushing for another equalizer. Napoli’s goalkeeper, Sergej Milinković-Savić, made a critical save in stoppage time to deny Morten Hjulmand, securing the victory for the home side.
Despite a fierce performance from Sporting, Napoli’s resilience proved decisive. The victory places Napoli in a stronger position in their Champions League campaign, having previously lost 2-0 to Manchester City in their opening match.
