The government of Jammu and Kashmir announced the appointment of senior National Conference (NC) leader Nasir Aslam Wani as an advisor to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. This appointment was confirmed on Wednesday through an official order issued by the General Administration Department (GAD).

Nasir Aslam Wani has previously served under Omar Abdullah as the Minister of State during his first tenure from 2009 to 2014, where he was responsible for multiple ministries. His close association with Abdullah is well-known within political circles, underscoring his new appointment as an advisor.

The official order from the GAD stated, “Nasir Aslam Wani is hereby appointed as advisor to Chief Minister, J&K. The terms and conditions of Wani’s appointment shall be notified separately.” As of now, those specifics have not been disclosed.

Wani also holds the position of NC’s Provincial President for the Kashmir region, reinforcing his influence and role within the party.

In related developments, Omar Abdullah assumed the role of Chief Minister as the leader of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) and Congress alliance, this following the recent Assembly elections. The coalition managed to secure a majority with JKNC winning 42 seats, Congress acquiring six seats, and additional support from four independent candidates from the I.N.D.I.A bloc. Omar Abdullah’s return to the office adds continuity, having previously served as Chief Minister from 2009 to 2015.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Center (SKICC) in Srinagar, presided over by Governor General Manoj Saxena. Prominent leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Akhilesh Yadav, attended the event, marking a significant political assembly under the I.N.D.I.A alliance.
