Nationwide Blackout Hits Nigeria Again Due to Grid System Failure
Another nationwide blackout has plunged Nigeria into darkness following a system failure in the national electricity grid. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the blackout, attributing it to issues in the central grid. The AEDC disclosed that the power disruption began at 3:10 pm on Saturday, impacting its franchise areas.
The AEDC stated that it is collaborating with relevant stakeholders to address the situation and restore power promptly. The recurring system failures in the national grid continue to pose challenges to the country’s electricity supply, leading to intermittent blackouts across regions.
This recent blackout adds to a series of power outages experienced in Nigeria in 2024, highlighting the fragile state of the electrical infrastructure. The nation previously faced grid collapses on February 4, March 28, and April 14, further underscoring the urgent need for system improvements.
