LINCOLN, Nebraska — The Nebraska Cornhuskers will host the Michigan Wolverines in a crucial Big Ten opener this Saturday afternoon. Both teams are looking to make statements with their star quarterbacks, Dylan Raiola and Bryce Underwood, leading the charge.

Dylan Raiola, a five-star quarterback, has impressed in his sophomore season. He has thrown for 829 yards, eight touchdowns, and no interceptions, boasting a completion percentage of 76.6%. Interim Michigan head coach Biff Poggi praised Raiola, describing him as “polished and dangerous.”

Last season, Raiola started as a freshman at Nebraska, demonstrating potential but struggling at times. This year, under the guidance of head coach Matt Rhule, he has shown growth, turning a corner from the up-and-down performances of his debut year. His experience is now evident as he’s better at reading defenses and making plays.

In a recent game against Central Michigan, Raiola completed 16 of 25 passes for 235 yards and scored once on the ground. He has shown the ability to extend plays and make crucial decisions under pressure, earning the confidence of his teammates.

On the other side, Bryce Underwood, also a highly touted quarterback, who made headlines in Michigan’s early matches, is still finding his footing as a first-year starter. He has displayed strong arm talent but struggled in his first road game against Oklahoma. Last week, Underwood rebounded with a stellar performance, solidifying his role as a playmaker.

The key to Saturday’s matchup will be how each quarterback performs against strong defenses. Nebraska aims to break its long losing streak against ranked teams, while Michigan seeks to maintain its momentum in the Big Ten.

Poggi noted that Raiola’s skills remind him of NFL star Patrick Mahomes, as both players possess a unique ability to make dynamic plays. Raiola himself acknowledged the importance of experience, emphasizing that “there’s no substitute for live game reps in the Big Ten.”

As both quarterbacks prepare for this critical game, the outcomes may hinge on their ability to adapt and lead their teams effectively amid high pressures. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM ET at Memorial Stadium.
