Nepal’s Cricket Hub on the Rise Under Stuart Law’s Leadership

Dubai, UAE – Stuart Law, the newly appointed coach of Nepal‘s national cricket team, is embracing the challenge of helping the team rise in the competitive world of cricket. Law, a former Australian international cricketer, has extensive coaching experience but is drawn to the potential of Nepal’s passionate fan base and talented players.
Despite Nepal’s status as an Associate nation, Law was intrigued when he witnessed a crowd of 7,500 fans attend a game in Dallas while coaching in the United States. “They are difficult to miss, with a vibrant following that has a unique position in the cricketing landscape,” he said.
Law’s first engagement with the team included a tense limited-overs series in Scotland, where Nepal faced off against established teams like Scotland and the Netherlands. Remarkably, Nepal clinched two victories, showcasing their capacity for dramatic finishes. “Our approach can lead to heart-stopping moments in matches,” said Law, reflecting on the team’s thrilling style of play.
Speaking in Dubai, ahead of an upcoming T20I series against the West Indies, Law emphasizes the need for consistency. “We can’t solely rely on emotional highs and lows. We need to stay even-keeled to make good decisions,” he explained.
Law also noted that the team’s playing style needs to evolve. Acknowledging the physical strengths of teams like West Indies, he stated, “We must find different ways to play cricket rather than just trying to hit sixes.” His strategy involves developing techniques that leverage skill over sheer power, encouraging players like captain Rohit Paudel to adopt smart, tactical approaches to the game.
Looking ahead, both Law and Nepal hold aspirations of raising their profile in international cricket. “There are ambitious plans to help Nepal become a Test-playing nation. The passion and drive are palpable,” he said. Law’s goals extend beyond Nepal; he also hopes to one day return to coach Australia full-time.
As Nepal gears up for challenges ahead, including the T20 World Cup qualifiers, Law remains focused on nurturing the emerging cricketing nation and harnessing the energy of its devoted supporters.
