New Book Reveals Biden’s Declining Health During Reelection Bid

Washington, DC — A new book by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson details President Joe Biden’s diminishing mental and physical capabilities during his final two years in office, particularly as he pursued reelection in 2024.
The book, titled “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,” shares insights from over 200 interviews, mostly with Democratic insiders. It paints a concerning picture where lawmakers and aides were aware of Biden’s struggles but largely chose to remain silent.
Tapper and Thompson highlight numerous instances where Biden struggled to recall names, including that of his senior advisor and national security adviser, Jake Sullivan. Other political figures expressed worry over his declining performance during private meetings, particularly leading up to the contentious 2024 debate.
Compounding concerns, Biden’s office recently revealed the president is dealing with an aggressive form of prostate cancer that has spread to his bones, with the family considering treatment options. Following the announcement, public figures, including former President Donald Trump, conveyed their support for Biden’s recovery.
Despite these challenges, Biden’s office continues to defend his performance as president, indicating he had not made decisions that jeopardized national security.
Amid such discussions, Vice President JD Vance called for transparency regarding Biden’s capabilities to fulfill the obligations of the presidency. “We can pray for good health but also recognize that if you’re not in good enough health to do the job, you shouldn’t be doing the job,” he stated.
Democratic insiders, concerned yet protective of Biden, noted a strategy to shield him from negative information during his campaign. Many expressed worries about the optics of Biden’s health but feared backlash for raising concerns or questioning his reelection bid.
As public sentiments evolve and Biden faces scrutiny regarding his electoral viability, many close to the president anticipate discussions on potential successors within the Democratic Party.
