Moms Act Legislation Mothers Support

Washington, D.C. — Comedian Alli Breen and Fox Nation host Abby Hornacek discussed the challenges parents face in balancing finances on Wednesday. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, U.S. Senator Katie Britt, R-Ala., announced her plan to introduce the MOMS (More Opportunities for Mothers to Succeed) Act, aimed at providing essential support for mothers both during and after pregnancy.

Britt highlighted that the number of births in the U.S. is the lowest since the Carter administration, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). She stated, “The Republican Party is the party of life, the party of parents, and the party of families,” emphasizing the need for substantial support systems for mothers. “At the heart of the MOMS Act is building a culture of life to allow moms, children, and families to thrive,” she said.

As a mother herself, Britt understands the obstacles faced by women. “I know firsthand that there is no greater blessing than our children and the challenges that come during pregnancy and raising them,” she added. Joining her on this legislation are Senators Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and several Republican colleagues, who collectively advocate for this family-centered initiative.

Senator David McCormick, R-Pa., expressed pride in being part of the bill, describing it as a “pro-family effort” that addresses the alarming low birth and fertility rates in the U.S. The MOMS Act proposes establishing a new resource hub, ‘pregnancy-dot-gov,’ to help expectant and postpartum mothers access vital services such as adoption agencies and pregnancy centers.

In areas like Alabama, where rural communities face significant maternity care shortages, the proposed legislation would introduce grant programs to alleviate these issues affecting over 20 counties dubbed ‘maternity care deserts.’

Britt’s last attempt to advance similar legislation faced opposition, with critics falsely claiming it would create a federal pregnancy database. This year’s bill also incorporates Senator Kevin Cramer’s Unborn Child Support Act, which enables states to establish child support obligations during gestation. Although no Democrats have shown public support yet, bipartisan conversations continue, with Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine co-sponsoring the Child Care Availability and Affordability Act aimed at lowering daycare costs.
