Postponement of Radford Ward Election in Coventry Following Candidate’s Passing

A tragic event has led to the postponement of the city councillor election in Radford ward, Coventry. The candidate representing the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, Dave Anderson, has passed away, prompting the electoral authorities to reschedule the election set for this Thursday.

As a result of Anderson’s death, the Radford ward election will be postponed, with a new timetable set to be released next week. The delayed election is now expected to take place in June, allowing time for the necessary adjustments to be made following this unforeseen circumstance.

Despite this change, all other elections scheduled for Coventry City Council will proceed as planned this week. However, Radford residents are urged to continue to fulfill their voting responsibilities at the polling stations within the ward on Thursday, as other important elections, such as that for the Mayor of the West Midlands Combined Authority and the Police and Crime Commissioner, will proceed unaffected.

Julie Newman, the Returning Officer overseeing the elections for Coventry City Council, expressed condolences to Dave Anderson’s family and friends, acknowledging the impact of his untimely passing. Newman emphasized the importance of civic participation and reminded voters in Radford to adhere to the voting requirements, including presenting their Voter ID at the polling stations.
