Nick Herbig Emerges as Key Player for Steelers’ Defense

Pittsburgh, PA – The Pittsburgh Steelers’ defense has struggled early in the season, ranking 21st in EPA per play and allowing the seventh-most rushing yards per game. However, they found a spark in their Week 3 game against the New England Patriots, winning 21-14 and forcing five turnovers.
Nick Herbig, an edge rusher for the Steelers, shined during the game, establishing himself as a crucial player for the team. He recorded eight pressures, ranking third in the NFL for the week. Additionally, Herbig led the league with four quick pressures and had the second-fastest get-off time, just behind T.J. Watt, who ranked third.
So far this season, the Wisconsin product has amassed 12 pressures on 65 pass rushes, showcasing his effectiveness as a pass rusher. In comparison, T.J. Watt has the same number of pressures, but on 83 pass rushes. This indicates that Herbig not only gets to the quarterback but does so efficiently and quickly.
As the Steelers navigate injuries, particularly with Alex Highsmith currently sidelined with an ankle injury, it’s evident they need to keep Herbig on the field. His performance suggests he could be a long-term successor to Watt, and it’s crucial for the team to utilize him extensively moving forward.
Looking ahead, the Steelers are preparing for a matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in Ireland for Week 4. Both teams enter with a 2-1 record and are poised to make a statement in this international game.
