Nigeria Labour Congress President Joe Ajaero At Police Office

The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Joe Ajaero, attended an invitation at the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) office located in Abuja.

Mr. Ajaero arrived at the IRT office at 10:17 am, accompanied by his legal team including notable lawyers Femi Falana, Deji Adeyanju, and Maxwell Okpara. His presence was in response to allegations pertaining to terrorism financing, cybercrime, and other serious offenses.

After a brief stay of less than 30 minutes, during which he provided his statement, Ajaero departed the IRT office at 11:15 am. Upon leaving, he was flanked by his lawyers and other NLC officials who joined him to show solidarity.

It is noteworthy that the leadership of the NLC had previously indicated that any attempt to unjustly detain Mr. Ajaero could result in a strike by the union. The Deputy Lead Counsel to Joe Ajaero commented on the allegations, asserting they were without merit.

The police initially issued the invitation to Ajaero on August 20 concerning claims of terrorism financing, cybercrime, subversion, criminal conspiracy, and treasonable felony. Although unable to attend on the initial date, Ajaero committed to honoring the invitation on August 29.
