Nipah Virus Precautions Implemented at Kerala-Tamil Nadu Border
In a move to prevent the spread of the Nipah virus, the Health Department has commenced screening of visitors arriving from Kerala at interstate border checkposts in the Nilgiris. This preventive measure is aimed at minimizing the risk of the virus entering the district, following a recent death caused by the virus in Malappuram, Kerala.
Health Department officials have stated that tourists entering the Nilgiris are being checked for body temperature and any signs of illness. If any visitors show symptoms associated with the Nipah virus, they will be isolated and subjected to testing. These steps are being put in place to safeguard the health of the district’s inhabitants and visitors.
Officials have assured the public that there have been no suspected cases of the Nipah virus reported in the district thus far. However, they are urging tourists to practice caution by wearing masks throughout their stay in the Nilgiris. The border checkposts are also witnessing an increased number of visitors from Kerala due to recent festivals such as Onam and Milad-un-Nabi.
