Noemie Fox Shines With Olympic Gold Amid Family Success

Noemie Fox has finally stepped out of her sister Jessica’s shadow, triumphantly winning gold in the women’s kayak cross event at the Paris Olympics. It’s a proud moment for the Fox family, marking their completion of a clean sweep in women’s canoe events.

The 27-year-old Australian athlete showcased an exceptional performance, winning every round leading to the final held at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium. Her victory brought Australia its 13th gold medal of these Games, and she crossed the finish line ahead of France’s Angele Hug and Great Britain’s Kimberley Woods.

“It’s crazy that it’s mine,” Noemie expressed joyfully after her win. She had dared to dream of reaching the Olympics and ultimately standing victorious on the podium. “When I saw in the last upstream gate that I was first, it was pure joy – there’s no words to describe that feeling,” she added.

The moment was even more special as her sister Jessica, a triple Olympic champion, jumped into the water to celebrate with her. While Jessica won two gold medals earlier in the Games, Noemie was overjoyed to carve out her own piece of Olympic glory.

Before these Games, Noemie had never been able to compete in the Olympics due to her sister’s dominance over the Australian selection spots. She admitted there were times she thought about leaving the sport because of it, but she persevered.

In addition to Noemie’s gold, the Olympics also saw Jack Robinson from Australia take home silver in surfing, and Melissa Wu dive for Australia in her fifth Olympic appearance. Meanwhile, Simone Biles added to her legacy by winning silver in the floor exercise finals despite a couple of missteps during her routine.

The Australian team continues to shine, with the men’s cycling pursuit team making waves and the men’s water polo team heading to the quarter-finals, while sailor Matt Wearn prepares for a medal race, showing the depth of talent coming from the country.
