Zohran Mamdani Fox News Interview

NEW YORK CITY — Zohran Mamdani, the leading candidate for mayor of New York City, spoke candidly during a Fox News interview on Wednesday, asserting he is ‘ready to speak at any time’ to help lower the cost of living. Mamdani, a democratic socialist, participated in the interview with host Martha MacCallum, which came before a key debate against former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

During the interview, Mamdani discussed his proposals, which include freezing rent increases on rent-stabilized apartments, implementing free public transportation, and providing free childcare. When asked if funding these initiatives would lead to cuts in other services, he responded, ‘I don’t think we have to cut. I’ve spoken about raising taxes on the wealthiest.’

Mamdani emphasized the importance of addressing the cost of living, citing conversations with Trump voters who expressed that economic concerns influenced their choice. He criticized the current focus on billionaires and profitable corporations at the expense of working-class citizens in New York.

The interview followed Mamdani’s surprising victory over Cuomo in the Democratic primary, where recent polls show him leading with 46% support compared to Cuomo’s 33% and Sliwa’s 22%. His campaign has drawn significant attention from conservative media, with Fox News frequently posting stories about him.

While MacCallum questioned his qualifications, referencing Trump’s claim that Mamdani had ‘never worked a day in your life,’ the candidate firmly stated he would not be a mayor who seeks to avoid accountability. ‘I will not be a mayor like Mayor [Eric] Adams, who will call you to figure out how to stay out of jail,’ he said, addressing Trump directly.

Mamdani also discussed his stance on international issues, including the recent ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. While he expressed hope for lasting peace, he refrained from attributing credit to Trump, stating, ‘I think it’s too early to give credit.’

As the election approaches, the debate is expected to cover Mamdani’s past comments on law enforcement and the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, issues he is prepared to confront head-on. He stated, ‘I want to build a partnership, not only with Washington D.C. but with anyone across this country.’
