Nypd Detective Pole Dancing Video Controversy

NEW YORK, NY — A detective in the New York City Police Department’s Special Victims Unit has drawn controversy after appearing in a pole-dancing video that has gone viral. Melissa Mercado, a seven-year veteran of the NYPD, is featured in the music video for ‘Doin That’ by Hempstead rapper S-Quire.

The video, which showcases Mercado in minimal clothing, has garnered significant attention across social media platforms, igniting discussions among her colleagues in law enforcement. The detective, who earns approximately $144,000 annually, is seen performing sexually suggestive moves while being showered with dollar bills in the video.

“I have no words,” remarked one detective who expressed disapproval of Mercado’s actions. The video’s lyrics include explicit references to Mercado, although she is not mentioned by name.

Mercado joined the NYPD in 2018 and is responsible for investigating sexual crimes in the Bronx. Despite the explicit content of the video, some advocates within the force argue that Mercado’s off-duty activities should not reflect poorly on the department.

<p“A member's off-duty actions do not necessarily relate to their professional conduct,” commented a police union representative. “She’s not representing the department in that video, and if she’s engaging in side work, she is obligated to report it.”

Supporters of Mercado point to her professional achievements, stating she has successfully made significant arrests. However, others in the department have labeled her actions as an embarrassment, noting that officers are expected to uphold high standards as public role models.

“I don’t understand why she would do something that stupid,” added another officer. “We are supposed to set examples for the public.”

Legal expert Eric Sanders, a retired NYPD officer, stated, “The department must conduct a thorough review of this detective’s conduct to ensure accountability and maintain public confidence in its officers.”

S-Quire, the rapper featured in the video, said he was unaware of Mercado’s occupation until contacted by the media, and described her as a friend who volunteered to assist with his project. Filming took place in early 2022 at a gentlemen’s club in Queens.

<p“Her decision to participate was her own, but I didn’t realize the potential ramifications,” S-Quire said. “I thought she had a great look and could help bring my vision to life.”

As the video continues to spread online, Mercado has reportedly deleted her social media accounts. The NYPD has yet to release an official statement on the situation.
