Olusegun Obasanjo Speaking At An Event

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasized that Nigeria was not created by God to struggle, highlighting the country’s abundant resources and the need for judicious use by its leaders. Speaking at the Methodist Archdiocese of Abuja’s 40th anniversary celebration on Sunday, Obasanjo stressed that Nigeria is endowed with numerous natural resources, including the Rivers Niger and Benue, crude oil, and fertile soil, similar to how other nations have been blessed with their own unique resources.

Obasanjo urged Nigerian leaders to appreciate and utilize these resources effectively to develop the nation. He noted that many countries lack the resources that Nigeria has, and it is the duty of Nigerians to appreciate God’s blessings and use them wisely. The former president also called on leaders, clergy, and citizens to pray for the country’s healing, acknowledging that Nigeria’s current struggles are not God’s fault but rather a result of squandering His gifts.

In his remarks, Obasanjo echoed the sentiments of Methodist Prelate Dr. Oliver Aba, who emphasized the importance of appreciating God amidst challenges. Dr. Aba referenced the biblical story of the 10 lepers healed by Jesus, with only one returning to thank God, to underscore the need for gratitude and faith in the face of adversity.

President Bola Tinubu, represented by Mr. Nyesom Wike, also commended the Methodist Church Nigeria for its commitment to social justice, education, and humanitarian outreach. Tinubu praised the church’s enduring spirit of faith, community, and service, and urged continued dedication to addressing national challenges through united efforts.

The event honored several notable figures with the Knights of John Wesley award, including Obasanjo, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and President Tinubu, among others.
