Oman to Face Kuwait in Critical World Cup Qualifier Clash
Oman and Kuwait are set to face off in a crucial World Cup Qualifying – Asia clash as both teams seek their first victory in the third round. The match is scheduled to take place at the Sultan Qaboos Sport Complex in Muscat on Thursday.
Oman, who have failed to secure any points in their first two matches of the third round, are eager to open their account after strong performances in the second round. They topped Group D, securing 13 points from six matches, and now look to improve under new management following defeats to Iraq and South Korea.
The Omani side, led by a new manager, will be looking to maximize their home advantage and turn their fortunes around. They narrowly lost to Iraq 1-0 and succumbed to South Korea 3-1, despite being level for most of the match. Key player returns, including a previously suspended midfielder, are expected to bolster the team’s performance.
In contrast, Kuwait has shown resilience in their first two matches by securing draws against Jordan and Iraq. Their Argentine coach, Juan Pizzi, has been working with the squad during a training camp in Dubai, focusing on strategies to convert draws into a victory against Oman. Kuwait managed to progress through their second-round group with seven points, finishing behind group leader Jordan.
Kuwait’s squad is expected to be reinforced by the arrival of Sultan Al-Enezi, who has joined the team after contractual commitments. The Kuwaiti team looks to capitalize on their solid defensive record under Pizzi’s guidance.
Both teams are in Group B alongside other regional contenders. A win for either side would significantly enhance their chances of advancing to the next round, with the top two teams slated for automatic qualification to the World Cup group stages.
Oman’s possible starting lineup includes Al-Mukhaini as goalkeeper, with Al-Harthi, Al-Musalami, Al-Khamisi, and Al-Busaidi in defense. Their midfield may feature Al-Yahmadi, Al-Saadi, Al-Alawi, and Al-Mushaifri, supporting forwards Al-Ghassani and Al-Sabhi.
Kuwait is expected to field Abdulghafoor as their goalkeeper, supported in defense by Al-Sanea, Al-Hajeri, El Ebrahim, Al-Enezi, and Ghanam. They will likely have Daham, Al-Dhefiri, Abujabarah, and Zayid in midfield, with Nasser leading the attack.
Fans and analysts are anticipating a competitive match as both teams seek to move up the group standings in their bid for World Cup glory in 2026.
