The recent bypoll results across seven states have revealed a significant victory for the Opposition’s INDIA bloc, capturing 10 out of the 13 seats up for contention. In Punjab, AAP‘s candidate Mohinder Bhagat emerged triumphant in the Jalandhar West constituency, clinching a substantial win by over 23,000 votes.

Simultaneously, across West Bengal, the TMC demonstrated its dominance by sweeping all four seats that were contested, solidifying its stronghold in the state.

In Himachal Pradesh, the political landscape witnessed the emergence of Kamlesh Thakur in the Dehra constituency, marking an important entry into state politics. The Congress party further bolstered its presence by securing the Nalagarh seat, while the BJP claimed victory in Hamirpur.

Following the victories, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed gratitude, noting the resounding rejection by the people of Himachal Pradesh against attempts to destabilize the government and emphasizing the voters’ keen awareness and vigilance. He pointed out that even independent MLAs had learned from past political strategies.

Meanwhile, in Tamil Nadu, the DMK candidate Anniyur Siva emerged victorious in the Vikravandi assembly seat with an impressive lead of nearly 60,000 votes. In Uttarakhand, the Congress party showcased its strength by winning both seats up for contention. In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP’s Kamslesh Pratap Shahi secured the Amarwar seat.

Notably, in Bihar‘s Purnea region, independent candidate Shankar Singh claimed victory in the Rupauli assembly bypoll, defeating JDU’s Kaladhar Prasad Mandal by a margin of 8,246 votes.

The bypoll results come on the heels of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the BJP secured 240 seats, falling short of a majority. However, the NDA coalition collectively attained 293 seats, surpassing the necessary threshold of 272. The Congress-led INDIA bloc managed to secure 232 seats, indicating a significant political shift post the general elections.
