The Electoral Commission has announced that applications for special votes will be closing tomorrow, 3 May 2024, as the country prepares for the upcoming elections in May. Citizens who wish to cast special votes are reminded to submit their applications before the deadline.

There are two types of special votes available for registered voters, one being home visits for individuals who are infirm or have impaired mobility. The second option allows any registered voter to vote early at their designated voting station. It is important to note that there is no age restriction for applying for a special vote, and all eligible voters are encouraged to apply before the closing date.

According to the latest data from the Electoral Commission, more than a million special vote applications have already been approved for the upcoming elections scheduled for later in May. This high number indicates a strong interest from the public in participating in the democratic process through special votes.

Special voting will take place on 27 and 28 May, from 9am to 5pm, providing convenience for those who are unable to vote on the official Election Day, set for 29 May 2024. The Electoral Commission has urged registered voters to ensure timely submission of their special vote applications, as late applications will not be accommodated.

As the deadline for special vote applications draws near, the focus is on ensuring that all eligible voters who require special voting arrangements have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming elections. The Electoral Commission’s efforts to facilitate special votes aim to make the electoral process accessible and inclusive for all citizens.
