SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a car early Monday morning in Sacramento, officials reported. Emergency medical services responded to a call around 5:35 a.m. at the intersection of North 16th and North B streets.

Authorities confirmed that the pedestrian was transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The Sacramento Police Department is still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, which remain unclear at this time.

In a statement, police indicated that the pedestrian’s injuries were severe, and despite life-saving efforts, the individual could not be saved. The department has shut down North 16th Street at North C Street as well as North B Street and Ahern Street while they conduct their investigation.

This ongoing investigation is being handled by the department’s Major Collision Investigation Unit. Police have advised drivers to avoid the area and seek alternative routes due to extensive road closures.
