New Jersey Traffic Accident

UNION, New Jersey (WABC) — A pedestrian was fatally struck on Route 495 early Wednesday morning, causing significant traffic disruptions at the Lincoln Tunnel.

The incident occurred on the westbound side at Kennedy Boulevard in Union City at around 6:30 a.m. As a result, traffic heading away from the tunnel was diverted onto local streets.

Commuters heading into New York City faced traffic delays extending all the way back on Route 3 near the Meadowlands due to rubbernecking at the site of the crash.

Delays were compounded by the closure of the express bus lane, which forced buses to mix with general traffic. Authorities are advising commuters to use the George Washington Bridge as an alternative route.

The cause of the accident is under investigation, and authorities are working to gather more details.
