Pennsylvania Man Charged with Online Threats Against Trump and Immigration Officials

BUTLER, Pa. — A 32-year-old man from Butler, Pennsylvania has been charged with making threats online against President Donald Trump, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, and other federal officials, the U.S. Justice Department announced. Shawn Monper was arrested on April 9 and faces four counts of threatening to murder a U.S. official in a federal complaint filed in Pittsburgh.
The threats, made through a YouTube account under the name “Mr. Satan,” were posted between January 15 and April 5, 2025. Monper’s comments intensified in February when he claimed to be accumulating firearms and ammunition since Trump’s inauguration, stating, “I have bought several guns and been stocking up on ammo since Trump got in office.”
Investigators from the FBI’s National Threat Operations Section received an emergency disclosure on April 8 about Monper’s threats, leading to a federal investigation that connected the online activity to his residence in Butler. According to Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti, FBI agents acted swiftly to apprehend Monper before he could carry out his alleged intentions.
Monper is accused of expressing outright intentions to kill multiple individuals, including Trump and Elon Musk. One of his comments read, “Nah, we just need to start killing people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed, and anyone who stands in the way.” He further described his plans for an “American Revolution 2.0,” indicating a belief that extreme measures would be needed. In another video, he noted, “If I see an armed ICE agent, I will consider it a domestic terrorist, and an active shooter and open fire on them.”
Authorities noted that Monper had received a firearms permit shortly after Trump’s 2025 inauguration. In a chilling statement on March 4, he threatened, “I’m going to assassinate (Trump) myself.” Such threats prompted federal concern due to their severity and specificity, illustrating the potential for real-world violence.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi issued a statement lauding the work of the FBI and local police, stating, “I want to applaud the outstanding and courageous investigative work of the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department, who thankfully identified and apprehended this individual before he could carry out his threats against President Trump’s life and the lives of other innocent Americans.”
Monper remains in U.S. custody and a detention hearing is scheduled for Monday, April 14. He has not yet entered a plea regarding the charges. The investigation reflects an ongoing commitment to addressing threats against public officials and national security.
