Pennsylvania Senate Race Between Bob Casey and Dave McCormick Too Close to Call
The highly contested U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania between Democratic incumbent Sen. Bob Casey and Republican challenger Dave McCormick remains undecided as of Wednesday. On election night, polls indicated that McCormick was leading by a margin of less than 1%, but the race is still too close to call.
Sen. Bob Casey, who has been in the Senate since 2007 and is seeking a fourth term, left his election watch party early Tuesday night as the initial results showed him trailing behind McCormick. Despite the early lead for McCormick, Casey’s supporters were urged by Scranton Mayor Paige Cognetti to remain patient and confident, suggesting that the final result could take a couple of days to determine.
Dave McCormick, a businessman and former CEO of Bridgewater Associates, the world’s largest hedge fund, is making his second bid for the Senate after losing the 2022 Republican primary to Dr. Mehmet Oz. McCormick has campaigned on issues such as reducing government spending, cracking down on illegal immigration, and leaving abortion decisions to the voters in each state.
The outcome of this race is crucial as it could impact the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. Republicans are optimistic about expanding their Senate majority, and a win for McCormick would contribute significantly to this goal.
Throughout the campaign, Casey focused on issues like “greedflation” and reproductive rights, while McCormick accused Casey of being a career politician closely aligned with other Democratic leaders. The candidates also disagreed on clean energy policy and gun laws but agreed on U.S. support for Israel.
