Pistons Knicks Nba Playoff Action

NEW YORK, New York — The Detroit Pistons defeated the New York Knicks, 106-103, in Game 5 of their playoff series on Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden, evening the series at three games apiece. Dennis Schröder, a standout for the Pistons, scored 14 points, including five in the fourth quarter, and excelled with crucial gameplay throughout the series.

Schröder, who averaged 13.2 points per game during the series, showcased his adaptability by taking on a pivotal defensive role against Knicks guard Jalen Brunson when Ausar Thompson sat out. “I think Detroit is one of the best situations I’ve been in,” Schröder said. “I don’t have to change my style of play; I can be myself.”

This victory provided the Pistons with a renewed chance after trailing in the series, making it a critical moment for the young team. Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 24 points, while Ausar Thompson matched his career high with 22 points.

Meanwhile, the Knicks struggled with consistency off the bench. Miles McBride, who has been a liability this series, scored just four points on 2-of-7 shooting. Coach Tom Thibodeau acknowledged McBride’s struggles, stating, “Next play, just keep getting ready, each game is different.”

Despite Brunson’s and Josh Hart’s brief injuries in the fourth quarter, their absence proved costly for New York. Thibodeau opted not to take his final timeout, which left the duo waiting at the scorer’s table for much of the crucial closing moments. “Coach’s decision,” he explained after the game.

The Knicks remain hopeful as they prepare for Game 6 back in Detroit, where Schröder and the Pistons will look to build on their momentum. The stakes are higher than ever as neither team wants to face elimination in what has become an intensely competitive series.
