Washington, D.C. – David Plouffe, a former top campaign aide, has publicly criticized President Joe Biden, saying he “totally fucked us” for staying in the 2024 presidential race too long.

Plouffe’s remarks come from a new book titled “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again” by authors Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. In the book, Plouffe, who managed Barack Obama’s successful 2008 campaign, was recruited to support Kamala Harris‘s presidential bid after Biden withdrew from the race last summer.

Plouffe described Harris’s 107-day campaign against Donald Trump as “a fucking nightmare,” attributing much of the turmoil to Biden’s decisions. He suggested that Biden’s delay in exiting the race after a troubling debate performance raised doubts about his age and mental sharpness contributed to the Democrats’ struggles.

“It’s all Biden,” Plouffe remarked, emphasizing that many in the Democratic Party were alarmed about Biden’s declining abilities. He shared that he had received calls from donors concerned about the president’s energy and communication challenges.

Other former Obama aides joined Plouffe in their concerns about Biden’s capacity to lead. One former senior aide quit the White House over worries about Biden’s suitability to run again, stating, “We attempted to shield him from his own staff so many people didn’t realize the extent of the decline beginning in 2023.”

Another Democratic strategist accused Biden of committing an abomination by seeking re-election, emphasizing the negative impact on the party and voters.

Biden, 82, faced ongoing scrutiny over his ability to communicate clearly, often losing his train of thought during speeches. In a bid to address these issues, he made recent media appearances on shows like BBC Radio 4’s Today and ABC’s The View.

The book paints a picture of Biden’s struggles leading up to the election, including a July 2023 debate performance that caused significant concern among his inner circle. After receiving strong warnings about his re-election campaign from key political figures, such as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Biden ultimately stepped aside on July 21, endorsing Harris but too late to change the narrative.

According to the authors, Biden’s involvement in the race may have inadvertently supported Trump’s potential return to the White House.
