BURBANK, Calif. — The streaming service Peacock has canceled the popular series ‘Poker Face’ after two seasons, but its creator Rian Johnson is not giving up. Johnson is currently shopping the show to other networks and aims for a new two-season commitment.

According to reports, Natasha Lyonne, who played the lead character Charlie Cale, will not return for the new version. Johnson and Lyonne have collaborated on ideas since the Season 2 finale, planning to keep the show alive. They announced, “We love our Poker Face and this is the perfect way to keep it rolling.”

Johnson’s plans include casting Peter Dinklage as the new Charlie. Dinklage will bring a fresh take to the character, known for her remarkable ability to detect lies. The unique casting follows in the footsteps of shows that have replaced lead actors mid-series, such as ‘Doctor Who’ and ‘The Crown.’

‘Poker Face’ enjoyed success in its first season, receiving critical acclaim and emerging as one of Peacock’s most-watched original programs. However, the second season did not perform as well, leading to its cancellation. The show is noted for its high production costs, which played a role in the decision to end it on Peacock.

Despite the cancellation, Lyonne continues as an executive producer under her production banner, Animal. She also has other projects in the works, including collaboration with titles like ‘Euphoria’ and ‘Klara and the Sun.’

Fans will have to wait and see how the future unfolds for Dinklage and the potential new series. Johnson’s vision is for the franchise to evolve every two years with a new lead actor. The search for a distribution partner is underway as Johnson and his team pursue this new direction for ‘Poker Face.’
