The main campus of Cégep de Valleyfield, located in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield, Montérégie, was closed on Friday following a police incident that occurred early in the morning. All classes and activities were suspended for the day, and the campus library remains closed.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), officers were called to the campus at approximately 6:15 AM in response to an attack on an employee of the institution. The police reported that a suspect has been apprehended and was taken to a hospital to receive appropriate care for his condition. The suspect will be questioned once his health allows, as stated by the SQ in a communication.

The victim, who sustained injuries believed to have been inflicted with a sharp weapon, was also transported to a hospital. Authorities indicated that the person’s life is not in danger.

An investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances and motives behind the act. During the operation, a security perimeter was established, and police managed to secure the area and locate the suspect.

A brief message was posted early in the morning on the college’s social media platforms, announcing the campus’s closure due to the ongoing police activity.
