Power Outage Hits Jenison Schools and Residents After Downed Lines
OTTAWA COUNTY, Mich. — A power outage caused by downed power lines has affected residents and students in the Jenison area early Monday morning. The outage occurred around 4:14 a.m. in the 2000 block of Bauer Road near 20th Avenue, leading to road closures and disruptions at local schools.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office reported that Bauer Road is closed between 20th Avenue and Lamplight Drive while crews from Consumers Energy work to repair the lines. The Georgetown Township Fire Department is also on scene to handle the situation.
Approximately 1,157 customers are currently without power, including Jenison High School and Jenison Junior High School, which are located just down the street from where the lines fell. It is not yet clear whether classes will be canceled or delayed at Jenison Public Schools.
Consumers Energy has announced that power restoration is expected by 10:45 a.m. Residents in the area are advised to seek alternative routes due to the road closure and ongoing repairs.
This incident follows a winter storm that hit the lakeshore on Sunday, affecting road conditions and visibility across Ottawa County. Authorities recommend exercising caution while traveling today, as additional localized snow is expected.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
