Presidency Denies President Tinubu’s Scheduled Address to National Assembly
The Presidency has refuted reports suggesting that President Bola Tinubu was slated to deliver an address before a joint session of the National Assembly on May 29, 2024, marking his first year in office.
In a statement released by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, it was made clear that the information about President Tinubu’s speech at the National Assembly was incorrect and unauthorized.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, had mentioned that President Tinubu would not be giving a national broadcast but would address a joint session of the National Assembly.
The planned program by the National Assembly was set to commemorate 25 years of Nigeria‘s democratic journey since 1999, involving key figures like former Senate President David Mark, and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, now Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Additionally, the former military ruler, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, was also scheduled to speak at the event alongside President Tinubu.
The climax of the event was meant to be the commissioning of the National Assembly Library and Resource Center, to be renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Building.
