President Ramaphosa Suspends Deputy Minister Dipuo Peters Over Ethics Breach

President Cyril Ramaphosa has taken the decision to suspend Deputy Minister of Small Business Development, Dipuo Peters, following a ruling by Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members' Interests. The Committee determined that Peters violated the Code of Ethical Conduct during her tenure as Transport Minister.

The suspension, effective as of 28 February 2024, will last for one month without pay, ending on 28 March 2024. Peters is required to adhere to this disciplinary measure as directed by the Committee’s sanctions.

During her time as Transport Minister, Dipuo Peters allegedly contravened ethical guidelines, prompting the Committee to investigate and subsequently impose the suspension. President Ramaphosa formally communicated the decision to Peters via written notice.

Parliament’s Joint Committee on Ethics and Members’ Interests plays a crucial role in upholding the ethical standards of public officials. The finding against Peters highlights the importance of accountability and transparent governance within the South African political landscape.
