Prince George Shows Interest in Following Royal Family Tradition in Aviation
Prince George, the son of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, has sparked interest in pursuing a career in aviation, following a long-standing tradition within the British royal family.
During a visit to Buckingham Palace, Prince William, second in line to the throne of the United Kingdom, hinted that his 10-year-old son, Prince George, has shown enthusiasm for a path previously taken by other family members.
Speaking to Squadron Leader Chrissie Lacey of the Royal Air Force, Prince William mentioned that George not only enjoys visiting RAF bases but also shows potential as a future pilot.
Prince George’s passion for aircraft has been well-documented over the years, with his mother, Catherine, Princess of Wales, mentioning in 2016 that he is ‘obsessed with planes’ and aspires to become an air cadet.
George has accompanied his parents on various visits to different air bases, including trips to the Royal International Air Tattoo air show at RAF Fairford and a tour in Hamburg, Germany, where he had the opportunity to explore various helicopter models.
If Prince George decides to pursue a career as a pilot, he would be following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, who served as an RAF Search and Rescue Force pilot from 2010 to 2013, and his uncle, Prince Harry, who worked as a helicopter pilot during his tenure in the British Army.
Several members of the British royal family have had involvement in aviation, including King George VI, who had a background in aerial work before becoming king.
Both Prince William and his wife, Kate, hold significant RAF-related appointments, with Prince William being named the Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Valley by King Charles and Kate holding the title of Royal Honorary Air Commodore of RAF Coningsby.
Recently, Prince William was appointed as the Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps, further solidifying the family’s connection to aviation within the military.
