Vladimir Putin Praying For Donald Trump In Church

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Russian President Vladimir Putin prayed for the well-being of former U.S. President Donald Trump following an assassination attempt at a campaign rally last summer, according to Trump’s top envoy, Steve Witkoff.

Witkoff shared this revelation during an appearance on Tucker Carlson‘s podcast, explaining the personal relationship between the two leaders. He recounted a meeting with Putin where the Russian leader visited a local church, met with his priest, and prayed for Trump’s recovery.

“When the president was shot, he went to his local church and met with his priest and prayed for the president,” Witkoff said. He emphasized the significance of this gesture, stating that Putin’s action was not merely diplomatic but stemmed from a genuine friendship. “He had a friendship with him, and he was praying for his friend,” Witkoff added.

The incident Witkoff referenced occurred last July during a campaign rally near Butler, Pennsylvania, when Trump narrowly escaped serious injury after being grazed by a bullet fired by 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. The attack resulted in one death and injuries to three others.

Additionally, Putin commissioned a portrait of Trump, created by a prominent Russian artist, as a further expression of goodwill. Witkoff described the moment when he presented the portrait to Trump as “gracious,” and noted that the gesture resonated deeply with the former president.

Trump has publicly expressed admiration for Putin, referring to him as a “genius” and “a strong leader,” a stance that has drawn criticism from various political circles. The dynamics of their relationship have attracted significant media attention, especially amidst ongoing international tensions.

Just last week, Trump and Putin engaged in a two-hour phone conversation aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Trump characterized the call as “very good and productive,” indicating progress in discussions about ending Russia’s invasion.

Amidst these developments, the war in Ukraine showed no signs of abating. Recent reports indicate escalating violence, including a Russian drone attack that resulted in multiple casualties in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia.

Witkoff’s remarks exemplify the complex interplay of personal relationships and international affairs, particularly as they pertain to the leaders of Russia and the United States in this tense global landscape.
