Radical Sikh Preacher Amritpal Singh Leading In Punjab's Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha Seat

Radical Sikh preacher Amritpal Singh is currently leading in the Lok Sabha election race for the Khadoor Sahib seat in Punjab by a significant margin, according to the latest updates provided by the Election Commission of India.

Amritpal is ahead of his closest competitor, the Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira, by over 30,000 votes. He contested as an Independent candidate and is known for heading the ‘Waris Punjab De’ group and is currently incarcerated in Assam under the National Security Act.

The early trends in Punjab also reveal that the Congress is leading in six other Lok Sabha seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is in the lead in four.

The races in Punjab show Congress leading in Amritsar, Jalandhar, Fatehgarh Sahib, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, and Patiala constituencies; meanwhile, AAP is ahead in Hoshiarpur, Anandpur Sahib, Sangrur, and Bathinda.

Vote counting for the 13 Punjab Lok Sabha seats, along with Chandigarh‘s singular seat, commenced at 8 am under strict security protocols. The state witnessed 328 candidates, including 26 women, vying for the seats, with an additional 19 candidates, including two women, contending in Chandigarh.

Notable figures in the Punjab election race include key candidates such as Preneet Kaur of the BJP, Sushil Rinku of the Shiromani Akali Dal, and former chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi running on the Congress ticket.

The contest in Ludhiana features Congress’ Punjab chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring against the BJP’s Ravneet Singh Bittu, among others, while Chandigarh sees BJP’s Sanjay Tandon up against Congress’ Manish Tewari.
