Heart Breakfast presenter Jamie Theakston has publicly announced his diagnosis with Stage 1 Laryngeal Cancer. Theakston shared this news with his followers on Instagram, revealing he recently underwent surgery to remove a lesion from his vocal cords, which was subsequently diagnosed as cancerous.

The 53-year-old Radio DJ expressed optimism about his prognosis. “I have cancer… but cancer doesn’t have me!” he wrote, conveying his determination and positivity about overcoming the disease. He mentioned plans to return to his show in October, assuring fans he will have a compelling story to share.

Theakston’s co-host, Amanda Holden, joined in showing support by posting a heartfelt message on Instagram. She expressed confidence in his recovery, thanking Theakston’s listeners for alerting him to changes in his voice, which led to the early detection of his illness.

Numerous colleagues and friends have extended their support to Theakston. Former co-host Emma Bunton, TV chef Jamie Oliver, and presenter Lisa Snowdon were among the many who sent him well wishes through social media.

According to the NHS, Laryngeal Cancer affects the voice box and is more common in men. Symptoms often include a hoarse voice persisting for over three weeks. Early-stage diagnosis, like Theakston’s, usually leads to a positive prognosis and can often be treated successfully with radiotherapy or surgery.

Jamie Theakston has been a prominent figure in British broadcasting, gaining initial fame as a presenter on the BBC’s Live & Kicking, and later co-hosting Top Of The Pops. He has been a fixture on Heart Radio’s Breakfast Show for 19 years.

Further updates on Theakston’s situation will follow as they become available. Fans and colleagues remain hopeful for his swift recovery and eagerly await his return to the airwaves.
