Rain Expected in Atlanta This Sunday Morning

ATLANTA, Ga. — A cold front is set to bring widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms to metro Atlanta early Sunday morning, according to FOX 5 Meteorologist Alex Forbes.
After enjoying several dry weekends, North Georgia residents can expect rain to fall between 4 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Sunday, with the heaviest rain likely hitting the metro area between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Forbes stated that areas south of Atlanta may experience more intense rain and possibly some thunder.
“You’ll likely hear a couple of rumbles of thunder, especially in places like Griffin, Pike, Lamar, and Upson counties,” Forbes said. He noted that while the rain may not be a complete washout, it will provide much-needed relief from the ongoing dry conditions. Most areas are expected to receive between two-tenths and four-tenths of an inch of rainfall.
The forecast indicates that the rain will begin tapering off by noon, leaving behind cooler temperatures as the front advances. Morning lows are predicted to drop into the 40s across metro Atlanta and even the 30s in the North Georgia mountains by Monday and Tuesday.
“We could see temperatures around 39 in Blairsville and 41 in Cornelia by Monday morning,” Forbes added. “Even Atlanta will get into the 40s for the first time this fall,” marking a shift towards more typical October weather.
As the rain subsides, windy conditions are expected, with gusts possibly exceeding 25 mph on Sunday afternoon. High temperatures are projected to fall into the 70s, a trend that aligns with seasonal averages.
Despite the rain, meteorologists are not anticipating severe weather, with the Storm Prediction Center indicating a low risk for severe storms. Rainfall totals in metro Atlanta are expected to be less than half an inch, with locally higher amounts in some areas to the west.
Following this weekend, the weather will remain dry with pleasant fall temperatures in the upcoming week.
