Rain and Wind Forecast for Las Vegas and Southern California
LAS VEGAS, NV — More than a half inch of rain fell at the airport Saturday, with additional rain expected overnight into Sunday. Although rain chances will decrease during the day, windy conditions are anticipated.
Another storm system is predicted to arrive Monday afternoon, bringing widespread rainfall and snow to the Spring and Sheep Range Mountains. This second storm will last through Tuesday.
Weather reports from Southern California indicate that while the heavy rain has diminished, light rainfall will continue into Sunday. Forecasters suggest the best chance of rain will occur in the morning, with isolated showers expected in the afternoon.
Rainfall amounts have been significant, with some areas receiving over 1.00 inch and others exceeding 2.50 inches. Notably, the San Diego International Airport recorded 1.20 inches in one day, establishing a new daily rainfall record.
Accompanying the storms, gusty winds were reported, with peak gusts reaching 45 mph at the San Diego Airport and 58 mph at Cuyamaca Peak. Although breezy conditions will persist on Sunday, peak gusts in the mountains and deserts are expected to be less than 30 mph.
The forecast indicates further rain on Monday and Tuesday, with rainfall totals expected to average between 0.50 to 2.00 inches in coastal and valley areas, 1 to 3 inches in the mountains, and 0.25 to 0.75 inches in the deserts.
Following a dry break on Wednesday, forecasters indicate a potential third storm system could bring more rain and wind later in the week.
Throughout the week, temperatures are forecasted to remain 5 to 15 degrees below average, with Sunday highs ranging from 63-74 degrees depending on the region.
