The BJP has given a significant responsibility to former general secretary Ram Madhav, appointing him as the in-charge for the upcoming Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir.

This is not the first time Madhav is handling the affairs of J&K; he was pivotal in forming a coalition government between BJP and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) back in 2015.

Sharing the duties with Madhav will be Union Minister G. Kishen Reddy, marking an important leadership shift in the party’s strategy for the region.

The BJP has decided to field candidates in the Kashmir Valley for these elections, which is a change from their Lok Sabha campaign. Madhav’s connections across the political spectrum in Jammu and Kashmir could prove beneficial.

In the previous Assembly election in 2015, the BJP secured 25 seats while the PDP won 28. The party is presently eyeing stronger representation in a constituency it identifies mostly with the Hindu-dominated Jammu area.

Soon after his appointment, party sources indicated that the decision was discussed at high levels, highlighting the importance of the upcoming elections.

Madhav’s past experience and political skill will be crucial, especially if a coalition government needs to be formed after the results are announced.
