Reba McEntire Shares Fond Memories of Stepsom Brandon Blackstock After His Passing
Nashville, TN — Country music star Reba McEntire fondly remembers her late stepson Brandon Blackstock, who died of cancer on August 7 at the age of 48. In an interview with PEOPLE, McEntire shared heartfelt memories of their relationship nearly two months after his passing.
Brandon Blackstock, the son of McEntire’s ex-husband Narvel Blackstock, battled malignant melanoma for over three years. “My relationship with my stepson, Brandon Blackstock, was precious,” said McEntire, 70. She met him when he was just four years old and helped raise him alongside his siblings. “I absolutely loved that child … They were my kids,” she added.
McEntire described Brandon as having a great sense of humor, recalling how he loved to play pranks. She remembered amusing moments at Starstruck Entertainment, the management company owned by Narvel Blackstock, where she would see Brandon hiding to scare people as they walked by.
“Brandon is sorely missed, truly missed with his mischievousness and his love of life,” McEntire said. “He brought joy to everybody that met him, and we’ll never forget him.”
Following his death, a statement from Brandon’s family confirmed that he died surrounded by loved ones. They thanked the public for their thoughts and prayers while requesting privacy during this difficult time. Brandon’s passing came one day after his ex-wife, Kelly Clarkson, had to postpone shows for her Las Vegas residency, citing his illness.
Reflecting on her bond with Brandon, McEntire previously posted on Instagram, saying, “His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence… His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again.”
