In February, Ottawa‘s automated speed enforcement cameras issued a record-breaking number of speeding tickets, with the new camera near Mooney’s Bay on Riverside Drive leading the pack by issuing over 2,000 tickets within its first month of operation. This marked a substantial increase in the number of tickets compared to previous months.

The camera on Walkley Road, positioned between Halifax Drive and Harding Road, also significantly contributed, catching 1,172 speeders in February. Similarly, the camera on Kelly Farm Drive, located between Bradwell Way and Alasken Drive, recorded 357 speeding violations during the 29 days of February.

Across Ottawa, a total of 22,467 speeding tickets were issued by the city’s 36 photo radar cameras in February alone. Notable cameras like the ones on St. Laurent Boulevard, Fisher Avenue, and Cedarview Road continued to heavily enforce speed limits, issuing thousands of tickets each.

The City of Ottawa’s aggressive deployment of automated speed enforcement cameras is part of its broader Road Safety Action Plan. The revenue generated from these tickets supports initiatives aimed at enhancing road safety for all road users in Ottawa.

Despite the overall success of the program, certain planned camera locations on Jeanne d’Arc, Heron Road, Montreal Road, and King Edward Avenue did not issue any tickets in February. However, the city’s plan aims to install a total of 60 photo radar cameras by the end of the year, signaling a continued focus on road safety.
