Red Sox Closer Aroldis Chapman Dominates in Win Over Marlins

BOSTON, MA — The Boston Red Sox entered the ninth inning with confidence on Friday night, facing off against the Miami Marlins. Following a strong performance from starting pitcher Lucas Giolito, who allowed just one earned run over 6 1/3 innings, the ball was handed to All-Star closer Aroldis Chapman.
As he has done throughout the season, Chapman delivered, retiring the side in just 11 pitches. The Red Sox, donning their Fenway Green uniforms, secured a 2-1 victory in the bottom of the ninth, following a clutch hit from Trevor Story.
Chapman, now 37, has had an impressive season, boasting a 1.16 ERA and a 0.73 WHIP across 46 2/3 innings. He has tallied 21 saves, striking out 66 batters while allowing only six earned runs this season. Notably, he has surrendered just one earned run since May 28.
Boston’s front office is pleased with their decision to sign Chapman during the offseason. While some teams may have hesitated due to his age, the Red Sox have been greatly rewarded. Chapman has expressed his desire to pitch into his forties, and based on his performance, that goal appears feasible.
The perspective of Chapman as a nearly untouchable closer is particularly striking given that he started the season competing for the role against teammates Liam Hendriks and Justin Slaten. If the Red Sox make a World Series run, Chapman will likely be instrumental in key moments.
The victory improved Boston’s record to 67-56, firmly placing them in the playoff conversation as they aim for a spot in the postseason.
