Reddit Experiences Widespread Outage: Here’s What You Need to Know
As of November 20, 2024, Reddit is facing a significant outage, leaving users unable to access the platform. The issue, which began around 3 p.m. ET, has affected users across the globe, with reports flooding in from various cities in the U.S., including Detroit, New York, Tampa, San Francisco, and Seattle.
The outage is characterized by several error messages. Users attempting to visit the Reddit desktop site are met with an “upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection failure” message. The mobile app is also affected, displaying a “Sorry about that. There was an error loading content” message.
Reddit has acknowledged the issue on its status page, indicating “Degraded performance for reddit.com” and labeling it as an “Unresolved incident.” The company is currently investigating the cause of the outage but has not provided a timeline for when the service will be restored.
Reports of the outage were first noted on services like Down Detector, which received over 40,000 reports within an hour before Reddit officially updated its incident page. Despite some users being able to access certain pages sporadically, the majority are experiencing significant disruptions.
Reddit’s official status account on social media has confirmed that they are investigating the issue, but no specific cause or resolution time has been announced yet.
