Renowned Quebec Singer Mélanie Renaud Passes Away at 42

The beloved Quebec singer known for her hit song ‘J’m’en veux’, Mélanie Renaud, has sadly passed away at the age of 42 at the Centre d’hébergements en soins palliatifs in La Prairie. Renaud had been battling an incurable form of ovarian cancer for several years.

Her passing has left a deep void not only in the hearts of her family including her mother Nicole, sister Lucie, brothers Daniel and Michel, but also among her numerous friends, colleagues, and admirers according to a statement on her Facebook page.

Originally from Haiti, Renaud captured the hearts of Quebec with her soulful voice, first gaining recognition with her duet with Éric Lapointe on the song ‘Mon ange‘ in 1999. Her debut album ‘Ma Liberté’ was released in 2000 and her single ‘J’m’en veux’ topped the charts.

In 2002, she clinched the Félix for Revelation of the Year at the ADISQ Gala, and also secured the Francophone award at the Canadian Independent Music Awards, cementing her status as a rising star in the music industry.

Throughout her career, Renaud released a total of five albums and also graced the stage in musicals like ‘Dix commandements’ and ‘Notre-Dame de Paris‘, showcasing her versatile talents to audiences worldwide.
