Rep. Mark Green Resigns from Congress, Heads to Private Sector

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-Tenn.) announced his resignation from Congress on Monday, stating he will transition to a job in the private sector after the House votes on the reconciliation package.
In a heartfelt statement, Green expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to serve Tennessee’s 7th Congressional District. “It is with a heavy heart that I announce my retirement from Congress. Recently, I was offered an opportunity in the private sector that was too exciting to pass up,” he said.
Green has been a member of Congress since 2018 and has served as the House Homeland Security Committee Chairman. He noted his involvement in passing significant legislation, including tax cuts and border security measures, during his tenure.
“I know that my colleagues in this Congress will continue to strengthen the cause of freedom,” Green stated. He has overseen key efforts, such as the impeachment of former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, during his time in office.
The timing of Green’s resignation comes after a period of reflection on his career, as he had previously considered retiring at the end of the last Congress. He ultimately decided to continue serving to ensure crucial border security priorities were enacted.
With the announcement of his impending resignation, a special election will be required to fill his seat once he leaves. The exact date of that election has yet to be determined.
Green, an Army veteran, remains proud of his contributions and the support he has received from constituents. “It was the honor of a lifetime to represent the people of Tennessee in Congress,” he added.
