Rockville Maryland Snow Emergency Winter Storm

ROCKVILLE, Md. — The City of Rockville declared a snow emergency Sunday, January 5, in anticipation of a winter storm expected to hit the region. The emergency requires all vehicles to be removed from city streets, including neighborhood roads, by 10 p.m. Sunday to facilitate snow removal efforts.

Residents are urged to park vehicles in garages or driveways whenever possible. If off-street parking is unavailable, vehicles should be parked on the even-numbered side of the street. In cul-de-sacs or courts, parking is permitted only on the left side as one enters. Parking in the bulb of a cul-de-sac is prohibited.

To assist residents, city-owned parking lots will be open for public use during the snow emergency. Vehicles found in violation of parking restrictions may be towed or ticketed.

City crews will prioritize clearing primary roads, including major arterial roads, emergency routes, and streets near schools, followed by secondary roads such as neighborhood streets and alleyways. Property owners are responsible for clearing snow from sidewalks, driveways, and entrances within 24 to 72 hours, depending on snowfall amounts.

Residents are encouraged to help clear snow around fire hydrants and storm drains and to check on elderly neighbors who may need assistance. The city’s volunteer snow shoveling program for seniors is available for those in need.

Updates on the city’s storm response and related information can be found on the city’s website, Rockville 11 (channel 11 on county cable systems), and the City of Rockville Government’s Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) pages.
